On this day...

Before it disappears in to the archive at the National War Museum. an old friend allowed me to read the diary her father-in-law kept during WWl. From the diary it appears he was looking after horses and wagons at Loos and then at Levin near Vimy Ridge, There were not a lot of entries so it just gave a small glimpse of the everyday life of one particlar soldier. He talks of the shelling alongside comments about the weather. He mentions meeting Amy Johnson and on this day the shooting down of Baron von Richtoven and an amusing mention of the fact that they had eggs and chips in a small town. Small inconsequential things in the midst of earth shattering events.
