Paper cranes folded by Sadako

Sadako was two years old when the A-bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. At the age of twelve she was diagnosed with leukaemia.

Believing that folding 1000 paper cranes would make a wish come true, Sadako tried to overcome her illness by folding paper cranes. Her wish was in vain. After her death, a monument was built for peace and to console the souls of all the children who perished because of the atomic bomb.
Today the paper crane has spread across the world as a symbol of peace.
