In one week I will be doing at talk with Scottish Artist and Photographer Donald John MacLean. I will also exhibiting  five pieces of my work in a group show with the Forgotten Collective at The SixFoot Gallery in my Beloved Glasgow. If you are around Friday, May 1, 2015, please come and say hi !

This is the written up on my work:

Theresa Lynn Groth, is a street/documentary photographer based in Canada and prefers to shoot mostly with a discreet digital rangefinder, the Ricoh GR V. She has over 25 years of experience in different creative media and has had the privilege of exploring many creative fields while working in the Fashion Industry as a Visual Display Artist, as a Makeup Artist and working on various advertising campaigns. These creative pursuits have helped enhance her skills in composition and perfect her artistic eye.

Theresa cannot identify a specific point that inspired her to become a photographer, however a series of life events contributed to her involvement and interest in photography. She is passionate about the arts and the pursuit of creative thinking, but street photography has especially captured her heart and her eye!  The emotions and coherence of the streets, observing strangers captured her attention, so beginning the creation of her images.  Her motivation for street photography is to showcase the beauty as she sees it; a chance to show others her take on the spirit of a place and time, and the people who inhabit it. Theresa’s work is about immortalizing the moment, a mood, or feeling; capturing the essence of it and objectifying it’s emotion.

By taking daily life as subject matter, commenting on the everyday aesthetic of her middle class values, Theresa creates intense personal works. Images are masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, acceptance and refusal that lure the viewer in circles. Her works are on one hand touchingly beautiful, on the other, arresting and disquieting; meant to leave viewers with a mix of conflicting feelings and thoughts.

Theresa’s works doesn’t always reference recognizable form. Often times deconstructed to the extent that meaning are shifted and interpretations become multifaceted.
