Memorial service in the Sounds.

The local Residents Association got together and had the memorial on the Torea Saddle done up this year in time for Anzac day 2015.
Twenty nine men were lost in two wars from the Sounds, Picton & Havelock area. Twenty one of these in the First World War, and another 8 for the Second World War.
One was a great uncle of mine, and there are 3 others that are cousins from our family from the First World War.
The large wreath in the middle is made up by my cousin K, who gathered together native plants from the Sounds, and plants, flowers, leaves etc from each place that the fallen men came from. Some where it was that they were born, others were they lived or worked. Often where they were born, lived and worked was the same place for all their very short lives, before going off to war.
