Sgwarnog: In the Field

Harbour Light

Saved for a rainy day, we headed into Whitehaven for lunch and a visit to the Beacon Museum.  The harbour was busy with preparations for the Whitehaven Festival, although the promised tall ship hadn't yet arrived.

7yo declared the Beacon to be the best museum he'd ever been to, which puts it ahead of the Natural History Museum and the National Railway Museum among many others. It told the story of West Cumbria very well, and had an effective blend of interactive elements, dioramas and original artefacts.

After the museum we walked around the harbour, and this image features one of several harbour lights on the complex arrangement of piers, jetties and quays that have developed through time.  It seems that a lot of effort has been put into reviving the harbour area over the past twenty years, and there's an impressive array of public art.

To be fair to Whitehaven, it shouldn't be just saved for a rainy day.
