Saturday 2 June 2012: GOD SAVE OUR GRACIOUS QUEEN(S)
Congratulations to HRH on 60 years on the throne.
The village had a jubilee gala, today, to mark the event and many people entered the fancy dress procession with lots of inventive jubilee themed costumes. Three gentlemen of the parish dressed up in their best frocks and actually won the fancy dress prize. My next door neighbour won the price for the best royal look alike (the Queen)!
We had a local air cadet marching band too who started the proceedings with a rendition of God Save the Queen and the audience were asked to join in and give a rousing chorus. It was pitiful! I suspect that it was simply because the yoof of today do not know the words and didn't really care what the event was to mark - just that it seemed a bl**** good excuse to drink as much as possible.
I know I'm getting old and turning into a grumpy old woman.
