Burn O'Vat

We were up in Aboyne for an orienteering event around the town. Being urban it was reasonably straightforward, but that didn't stop me making an erse a mess of a control in a bit of forest and losing more than 6 minutes. We had a few hours before the daylight went so went to the Scottish Natural Heritage reserve at Muir of Dinnet. There are lovely birch and pine woodlands and a spectacular glacial feature called the Burn O'Vat. This is a pothole caused as the ice melted towards the end of the ice age. It is 18 metres across and 13 metres deep and there is 7 metres of gravel in the base. S and A show its size. The current burn is wee,
