Spent the morning with Max, Yvan´s friendly lil dog, instead of chopping fruit. I decided Max smelled a bit weird so probably needed a bath, but upon asking Yvan whether I could bath him was met with the disgusted response of 'why on earth would you ever bath a dog?'. So instead of bathing, I took him on a walk around the centre grounds.

Later on Yvan came rushing into the volunteer house and told us that we needed to sit in his office until he told us we could come out. 45 minutes later, he released us and explained that the police had come around asking whether he was housing any volunteers. Apparently there is some kind of corrupt system where some officers insist that volunteers without a volunteer visa are in Ecuador illegally, and demand they pay various fines for the offence. Obviously we all have tourist visas, which cover you for volunteering for a 90 day period, beyond which you need a volunteer visa, but the police here are rather insistent so Yvan thought it best to harbour us as quasi-fugitives in his office rather than admit we were there.
