Rocks near Whitesands Beach

We headed into St David's to wander round the UK's smallest city and magnificent Cathedral. Wales now has the two smallest cities in the UK, St Asaph having been given city status in 2012. Wells is England's smallest city. Winchester is a metropolis in comparison.
Later we headed out to walk round St David's Head. We started out from the car park at Whitesands with the weather having cleared (a bit) and intending to get back in time for a paddle. Carn Llidi had been clouded in mist earlier but as we set off the peak was clearly visible. We were afforded some spectacular views and I have never seen so many foxgloves and wild orchids (in fact I don't think I have ever seen wild orchids before) as we headed round Carn Llidi. As we reached the other side and headed towards the coastal path the weather began to turn. The wind picked up so we took the easy decision not to continue to the headland but cut back across. A good move becasue the drizzle began making it slippy and for those of us wearing glasses difficult to see.
This is taken just as we came round into Whitesands Bay. I have just realised how difficult it is to judge the sheer scale of this rock as we were quite a way up; all I can say is you would not want to jump off. The area is supposed to be good for fossil hunting. We decided a pot of tea much more interesting and left with hunting fossils or having a paddle.
