Dolma

Tonight the Rotary Club held their meeting at a local Nepalese restaurant to help raise money for the devastated nation of Nepal.

Dolma is a Sherpa and her family all still live there. Fortunately they are amongst the lucky ones but over 7,500 have been killed with some villages not even accounted for yet.

Her husband, Tony, told us that the main square in Kathmandu is now 1 metre higher and Mt Everest is an inch lower.

Blackheath Rotary is donating 3 Shelter Boxes. This worldwide initiative pays for kits ($1,000 each) to be sent to disaster areas. They are literally boxes filled with tents, blankets, cooking equipment, some food, water purifying tablets etc. and each provides for several families.
As of Monday, 500 had already arrived there from Australia alone.
It is a real 'hands on' way of providing immediate and practical help.
