Memorial to two young seamen, Cumbrae

The HMS Shearwater, a Royal Navy surveying ship, was surveying the west coast of Scotland in May 1844 - 171 years ago next week. This sandstone obelisk commemorates two of the crew, aged 17 and 19, who drowned off the north end of Cumbrae as their sailing boat capsized.
