Lazy afternoon

The cloud cover suddenly thinned this afternoon and the sun shone weakly. I decided conditions were good enough to walk my butterfly transect - a long-term survey method to monitor butterflies at the nature reserve. This is the ex-arable field we are restoring to a flower rich meadow - I cross it for the last section of my walk. There were very few butterflies on this section, but I consoled myself by lying amongst the buttercups and dandelions. Earlier, I had seen my first Common Blues and Small Coppers of the year so I felt good in the unaccustomed warmth of my yellow bed.
