Hearts Competition

I have spent the day at a Centenary Celebration of the WI. A quarter of the WIs in Surrey, about 45, came together for a day of exhibitions, demonstrations and a competition. I had organised the competition which was for "a heart, any medium" and it was such fun staging such a remarkable variety of entries. In addition to cushions and pictures, there was a Queen of Hearts doll, a flower arrangement, a child's dress and two tins of heart shaped biscuits! The competition was judged by a qualified judge and she chose the hearts wall hanging at the. front, but the "visitors' choice" picked an embroidered tablecloth that had been sixty five years in the making!
Hundreds of members attended this happy meeting where they had the chance to see the Centennial Baton which has travelled the country before ending up in two weeks' time at the Royal Albert Hall for the Centennial AGM in the presence of Har Majesty the Queen.
