Heron

I spent a good amount of time stalking this heron at the river mouth this morning; you know the drill--camera at the ready, one slow foot after the other, hoping he'll move artfully, hoping he'll just stay put, hoping the settings are right, hoping I remember how to do this. There aren't many times whenI wish that I still carried my heavier gear, but this was definitely one of them. Although he was quite patient with me as I crept along, I  had only a pocket camera and couldn't get as close as I wanted. And then there is the moment when I wonder why I am all squinty looking at the bird through the camera when he is magnificently right there and I can just see him the way he is seeing me.
