Falling leaves

There was a tree which, for a while, achieved a degree of fame because it was out of step with the seasons. It shed its leaves in Spring and put out buds in Autumn. People used to come to the forest to have their photos taken with it - the bare branches in Summer or bright blossom in Winter.

But then a second tree was found in New Zealand. This tree was perfectly in tune with the English Seasons whilst the original tree kept perfect time with the Southern tree's neighbours.

Somehow, this seemed to explain things for people. A single anomalous tree was a mystery but a matched pair seemed much more normal.

Soon, the tree was all but forgotten.
