May

In spite of the adverse weather conditions over the past few days, we made it to the Isle of May on a gloriously sunny day. OK, there was a stiff breeze and the journey out on the May Princess was quite, erm, lively, but ooh - the puffins! The gannets, the guilliemots, the eiders, the grey seals...even the rabbits. And everywhere the short-cropped green grass, the sea campion and the thrift, the shatteringly bright sunshine and the all-encompasssing glittering sea.

I'm not sure what these two puffins were thinking. (If they were, at all). They evidently had beakfuls of delicious sand eels but appeared uncertain as to where they should go next. My strong suspicion is that they have momentarily forgotten the location of their burrows (and hence their ravenous babies). Interestingly, they sat there for some time, thinking (or whatever is the puffin equivalent), but never just giving up and eating the sand eels themselves.

Many thanks to Jim for the lift across!
