Journey Through Time

Portland Rose Festival Collage

It's June and time for the Portland  (Oregon) Rose Festival.  We watched the Grand Floral Parade on TV and they had that wonderful shot of Portland and the Willamette River.  That bright white bridge is the new Tillicum Crossing bridge, for pedestrians, bicycles and public transportation only....no cars.  It's not quite finished.  And check out that weather! A gorgeous and quite warm day.  Considering that it can be a wet Rose Festival more times than not, we're happy with hot!

Several of my favorite things are in this collage. Who doesn't love the Clydesdale horses pulling the Budweiser wagon?  And I love to see the pretty girls all decked out riding their horses.  All the Rodeo girls from around the area were there, including the Happy Canyon girls with their beautiful clothing and horses.  The girls performing are from a school in one of Portland's sister cities, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.  The school is the Shu-Te Home Economics and Commercial High School and they come every year to be in this parade.  They have a marching band and a group of young women who do the most marvelous routines.  This one was just breathtaking.  They looked like butterflies.  The rose I saw on our walk tonight, so had to put in a rose for Portland.

Then to further celebrate our area we watched the movie Wild tonight with Reece Witherspoon.  I'd read the book, which is always a better alternative than seeing a movie as it's impossible to really cover everything that was in the book.  But Reece did a gut wrenching performance as the troubled young lady seeking answers and peace on the Pacific Crest Trail.  And we got to see some scenery of the trail, which was interesting.  Rated R for a reason.  More graphic than I expected.

Bye for now.
