Armed Forces Day - Tonyrefail

One of those days that reminded me of days gone by here in Tonyrefail.

Many moons ago we used to have village fete which always had a procession of floats with the various schools and charitable organisations dressed up on. There was always a marching band. Today was a bit of a throwback to those days but for a far more serious reason.

Tonyrefail has celebrated Armed Forces Day over the past few years. This year they had decided to march from St Georges Church, which I have now discovered is in fact a war memorial. The various local branches of the British Legions were involved, and after marching up Mill Street they congregated in Tynybryn Park for a service and a ceremonial flag raising ceremony (pictured as an extra photo). It was a shame the weather closed in during the service, but that didn't stop a rather rousing rendition of Cwm Rhondda and the Welsh National Anthem!

I was glad to have walked over and been part of it.
