Poles Apart

Malta Day 1

Our first trip to Malta. I have Maltese Ancestry (my surname Fenech-Soler, originates from there) but I know little of it. It's long been a place we've wanted to visit and explore, as well as spending a couple of weeks in the sunshine for a bit of relax time!

The day was long, we were up before the sun which is no mean feat this time of year, but it was all smooth and before we knew it we'd arrived at our destination of Mellieha.

This was the view from a lunchtime spot, and you can be sure that the church will appear in at least one of the blips I upload for the next couple of weeks!

We'd chosen our resort as it was a bit quieter and seemed to have a fair share of good places to eat. We like to go for accommodation only, and eat out as much as possible. For us it's part of the holiday and helps to get to know a place and it's culture a bit better.

Our first meal was at the nearest restaurant to the hotel - Tosca where I just wanted a straight up pizza. Which is nothing to do with Maltese Culture but it had been a long day :o) Catherine was a bit more adventurous and went for sea bass which was prepared at the table.

We did have a bottle of Maltese wine - can't recall what, but it was delicious. Must admit I've ever seen Maltese wine in Oddbins or Tesco!

Our first impressions of the island were tricky to gauge at this early stage. A long day and our only views being through the window of a coach. Two weeks left to get a good look :o)
