Waddeson Feast

This weekend was a big event at Waddesdon manor.  It was the first re-enactment of the Feast which the Rothschilds in the past put on for local children and their families, consisting of a meal and entertainments.  An original photo shows the whole of the main drive with trestle tables, banners and floral decorations - all of these were laid out today.  Visitors could buy food from the many external caterers or bring their own picnics.  This is an image of Waddesdon as never seen before quite in this way!

Yesterday the weather was poor but today made up for it and there were literally thousands of people who came to enjoy the feast. It was well organised, thoughtfully put together and, from what I could see and hear, everyone was having a really good time.

I was a volunteer in the Family Marquee where we were inundated all day with children for the activities laid on.  My involvement was with the wood block printing of leaves onto canvas bags which the children could take away.  A local wood carver was there to demonstrate the leaf blocks made from an old Lime tree in the grounds which had had to be felled.

I also was there to take some photos of the event - I have a lot - and I didn't sit down all day - exhausted now! one extra which shows the volunteers at the end - I set up the camera but someone else actually pressed the button - still smiling!

Dinner now!
