In Limbo

If that was me
and I had the whole bus to myself
and was wearing my white coat
with the fur hood

and had just some bottled water
for company
(we can ignore the driver,
he’s concentrating on the road)

I expect I’d be regretting
leaving my phone at home
in my other coat pocket
- how could I have done such a thing!

But now there’s nothing else for it
but to look out of the window
and watch what passes
or look inwards and daydream a little

and wonder what emails, texts
and calls I will have missed.

My friends must be thinking
I no longer exist.
