Saturday 9 June 2012: Cockenzie Power Station (169/366)
This is my entry into the WBC challenge on the theme of Energy. From the sun, the emotions of the couple walking, or the youthful exuberance of the dog just behind. Yes, all those, and the 1200MW power station in the middle distance!
Cockenzie power station was opened in 1967, burning locally-supplied coal from the mines of East Lothian. When they ran out, it was the first station to be supplied by the "merry go round" system of transporting coal by rail, where the train never stops.
The power station is due to close in 2016 due to its carbon inefficiency, and only runs intermittently at the minute.
