The high road

Gordale Valley

Beautiful walk to the very dramatic sheer limestone cliffs of Malam Cove, then up the escarpment to the top, where we watched two Pereguine falcon chicks devour a bird that their parents had bought for them. We watched them for a good while and were rewarded by seeing both youngster in flight, they were very noisy, screeching loudly. I have never seen these birds in the wild before!
We walked on to Malham Tarn, the sun shone and the grassy pathways between the limestone outcrops were stunning. All the while we were able to spot an abundance of wild flowers such as Primulas, Violas, Marsh Marigolds, Saxifrage and the newly named Lady's Frock! We decended into Gordale Beck, shown in my blip, and then the much steeper scramble down Gordale Scar, which was exciting to say the least with the water rushing past us! A more gentle amble along the river valley brought us back to Malham and a cream tea. A fabulous day!
