Agios Nikolaos Day 2

Carl was out and about earlier than usual, down at our local beach for an extended splash-around, while I turned over to try to catch up on missed sleep during the night. Great food in Mistrali restaurant beside the beach, then back to the hotel where we were delighted to learn about the Greek Solidarity demonstration back home in Dame Street.

Coffee and flavoured raki on our balcony got us in the mood for some night life. We had a few places in mind, the most significant of which was to persevere with the restaurant we'd tried to find last night. First, though, we climbed lots of steep steps to get up to streets well above the lake and found a (pricey) piano-bar restaurant we'd spotted from down below. That spurned, we continued on until we found Chez Georges, a splendid cocktail bar with spectactual views across the lake to the sea, where we signed Georges's guest book (volume 7) and chatted about the economic situation. Having promised to visit him again (I just have to get back there during daylight hours for a bit of a photo session), we resumed the search for last night's elusive restaurant.

It's on a really attractive street, it's run by a real character who specialises in effusive greetings and farewells, and the food is down-to-earth. Unfortunately, it wasn't anywhere near as good as the reviews had led us to expect, so we didn't linger.

As we made our way back to familiar territory it was very noticeable that bars and restaurants and shops were all closing much earlier than usual, presumably because of tomorrow's referendum. We didn't stop at all (most unusually for us), and settled down to a short Netflix session instead back in our hotel.
