Opportunist

All the sunflowers this year have had their heads severed, and I suspected it was the squirrel, but now I've got proof! I took this through the kitchen window this morning--the first time I've caught him red-handed. I don't know how the flower holds his weight, but these stalks are a good six feet high and he scrambles up there, finds the ripest one, manages to pull off the entire head (no dainty munching for this guy), and then scampers off with the whole thing in his mouth. I wonder if he's taking it back to a nest, or whether he's just stuffing himself silly.
