Detour around perdition

Each of them had successfully navigated their way past the young preacher peddling a mixture of the need for repentance and the promise of eternal damnation unless God's grace was appropriated.  They stood as strangers at the intersection, but the shared experience they had just encountered allowed them to propel themselves a little closer into a touching friendship.
