Wednesday 13 June 2012: Dead Man's Bells

I read somewhere that the Forget-me-not is the state flower of Alaska, so I thought that would make a good blip. It shows how long it has been since I properly looked in the garden, it grows like a weed but has finished flowering. So I had to have a rethink. Gave up on US state flowers and then found that the foxglove is the county flower for Argyll, the West Midlands, Leicestershire and Monmouthshire. This one is beautiful and attracts lots of bees, except when I have my camera ready.
One needs to be careful when handling the plant depending on the species it may contain several deadly toxins and as a result they are also known as Dead Man's Bells and Witches' Gloves.
