Is this architecture?

This is one of the entrances to Edinburgh's old Royal Victoria Hospital. I say old, because it is closing down, and this was my final visit to see my mother there. All the patients have now moved to the brand new Royal Victoria Hospital, a few hundred metres away on the Western General campus. We'll get on to its architectural delights later.

You do have to ask what the architect who designed this was thinking about. The Western includes some fine buildings, such as this one. But there is very little at the old RVH that would win the Stirling Prize. Or indeed any prize.
