Sunbeams

Black gold, perhaps

From a distance the black piles look like coal heaps but drawing nearer one notices the small seed of oilseed rape (those fields of yellow flowers).  They used to be a good  crop to grow but the sale price has now fallen and the overheads  risen!  We had to bring in a contractor to harvest the three fields as his combine harvester has special attachments for the rapeseed and the whole machine is enormous.  The crop is difficult to grow and difficult to gather as the seeds are small and run like water out of any cracks in the trailers or storage.  This is the first time we have grown it.

The extra photograph is of the contractor harvesting the rape.  The combine's front wheels run on  tracks.
