Friday 15 June 2012: Sisyphus

As is frequently the case, I was looking at something else entirely--a small white-bodied spider with red stripes, to be exact--when a little motion to the left caught my eye. Cute green ladybugs? nope. Sap-sucking spotted cucumber beetles, not beneficials at all, but I didn't know that when I was out there struggling with my tripod. They were loping around on the thick sturdy volunteer sunflower, which is right in there with the cucumbers and other vine crops. I was amused and fascinated at their little drama, but now that Google has enlightened me, I feel that I should march right back out there and rescue my vegetables from such destructive little monsters.
