Saturday 16 June 2012: The Butt of Lewis

This is the most north-westerly point of Europe - just about 10 miles north of my home. There is a gentle wind today, but this part sees at least one hurricane and many days of gales each year. It is stunningly beautiful and rugged, and I love it. The lighthouse is automatic now, but the next time you hear on the shipping news "Butt of Lewis, gale force 10 and rising" you will know where they are talking about!
