My Great Success Story

Zadar Sunset

We left the our comfortable guesthouse in Plitvice, walking down to the bus stop in hope something would turn up. We ended up waiting for a while, along with some of the others who had been staying at the same place as us.

We waited a while before a mini bus turned up. This was obviously not public transport but they offered to drive us to Zadar for a reasonable price. This kind of thing, unthinkable in the UK, I believe is fairly normal in Croatia (I hope). So we hopped in.

As we left the relative altitude of Plitvice and headed down towards the coast the temperature rose very quickly.

When we arrived at the bus station outside of Zadar centre we buddied with some other backpackers to walk into town. We eventually found our guesthouse on a street about 50m away from the central square in the city.

As with a lot of the places we stayed in Croatia, it was amazing how nice it was. For about £15 for the night each we had a big bedroom with ensuite and an open plan, fully equipped kitchen.

We soon headed out, stopping for a beer in the square, walking around the waterfront, wandering through some markets. Zadar is a nice place.

We stopped for quite a while by the famous (?) sea organ. waves of sea water run in and out of various holes in the concrete, causing air to run through the pipes of the organ. Listening to its random (though sometimes well formed) melodies is mesmerising.

Later on we sat nearby to for a nice meal outside to watch the sunset, which was stunning!
