10th Annual Blackfly Ball

We spent about ten fun filled hours today at the 40th Annual Machias, Maine Wild Blueberry Festival. Blueberry pie eating contests, baking contests, quilt raffles, craft vendors, a concert by the Ukulele Club band and a great book sale outside at the library. We had dinner at Helen's Restaurant, shared a slice of blueberry pie and walked to Bad Little
Falls Park for the outside concerts and dancing at the Blackfly Ball, organized by the 'Bees'. I've linked a video about the The Beehive Collective if you want information about them and their work. The outside events featured local musical groups( one of the extra photos) and the What Cheer? Brigade, a raucous and wonderful ensemble of brass and drums. Many folks were in fancy dress, everyone was happy and the weather grand, (although it was too humid all day).

For the Record,
This day came in sunny and warm, and extremely humid!

All hands healthy

By the way, Blackflys are the nastiest of Maine insects, the curse of springtime! I have had two bites on my ankles this vacation(some hang around I guess) and I'm quite sensitive to them, lots of itching and some swelling.
