Summer in the city

... walking on the sidewalk hotter than a match-head.

As if... summer in the city in Edinburgh so far has involved sheltering from the rain.  The boy and I were doing just that in the Scottish Parliament today as we visited the Press Photography exhibition.  Compare and contrast with the visit to the Victorian Photography exhibition yesterday.  At that exhibition there was a notice warning that there were disturbing images in a particular glass case.  They turned out to be images of two babies, taken after death.

As the boy said, practically every image in the press photography exhibition contained disturbing images.  But that is the function of the press.  To disturb.

The photo today is of Robert Burns, made out of match heads.  There's a companion sculpture which has been burnt.  It was to commemorate the 200th anniversary of his death, and was commissioned by StAnza Poetry Festival back in 2005.  There is quite an art collection in the Scottish Parliament building.  Occasional tours are held to introduce visitors to them.  Adding that to the list of things to do!
