Purple Cow

At the moment Edinburgh hosts three festivals of which the Fringe is the largest with 3314 shows from 49 countries in 313 venues.  One of the largest is the huge cow Udderbelly tent with seating for over 400.  Also there are the free street shows mainly in the High Street and here on The Mound (as shown in the extra) where I watched a marvellous Swedish magician.
One of the problems with so much to choose from is to attract people to a particular show so every few metres there are hopeful performers handing out flyers.  Yesterday on the radio it was stated that
Three and a half million shows means an average 1.5 million flyers. Those flyers get an average length of 20 metres before they're binned or dropped.
It must be quite disheartening for the performers to see people refuse their flyer or to throw it away without a proper glance. For many their visit to the largest arts festival in the world will be an expensive, but memorable, time and some might even go onto fame and fortune.
