Sandcastle Holidays

Simplicity

Having not managed to visit any Festivals or Fringe events at all this year (what have we been up to?)... my better half and I headed into the city centre of Edinburgh today to soak up the atmosphere.

We were also escaping the house a bit, but that's another story.

Went into Old St Paul's to see the Alison Watt painting which was commissioned for the 2004 Edinburgh Art Festival.  Amazing to find quiet reflective spaces in the midst of Edinburgh's busiest time of year.  I took this image of the plain windows in the church, although there were many stained glass ones in there too.

We also visited my favourite venue, the Dovecot Studios in Infirmary Street. I enjoyed the exhibitions, but peeking at tapestry works in progress is an added treat. I fell for this one, and would have bought it in an instant (just under £20,000 though). Then over to the Talbot Rice Gallery to see
Hanne Darboven: accepting anything among everything which was fascinating and just a bit scary too.

We did a quick scoot through the central Royal Mile where there were the usual things going on, but there was an important golf match to be played by my companion later in the afternoon, and I had an emotional teenager to deal with.  The joys!
