Ghosts, gangsters and massacres

Today we took GlassRoad from the smoky Bitterroot to the slightly less smoky Big Hole Valley and Bannack. First stop was just over the hump where the Welcome sign is a must. Then on to the Nez Perce Battlefield and the museum. We stopped in Wisdom for lunch and tarried a bit in Jackson at the Buffalo Gal Hat Co.. We left the big haystacks of the Big Hole behind as we descended into Bannack, Montana's territorial capitol and the site of it's major gold strike. GlassRoad's entry will give you a little history. We were played out of town by Mr. Jay R. on the pump organ (extra pix). He yodeled a very fine rendition of "Ghost Riders In the Sky"....delightful!
Nearly home in the Bitterroot, we had a beautiful cut of prime rib at the Rocky Knob...a venerable old roadhouse where the ghost of old Joe still trods the boards above your table.
