Welcoming September!

Dear Diary,

It is feeling more like mid- August than the first of September. The three H's are firmly in place - Hazy, Hot and Humid! I'll take it for now for it will change soon enough. I particularly like Br. Cadfael's words today. Each day of one's life has meaning, the last no less than the first. We have no magic glasses that will let us see the calendar of our lives so living each day is what is most important.

September can be an in between place...neither summer nor autumn. It is a threshold month. While we are still enjoying summer we begin our preparations for winter. Time to schedule the furnace cleaning and the generator tune-up. My wood will come early next month. So much to do but first on my list is to savor these late summer days.

By all these lovely tokens September days are here, With summer's best of weather And autumn's best of cheer.

I have always loved September. After beginning school every year for over 50 years, September has always felt like the “New Year” to me. It was always a new beginning. There was something so hopeful about September with its smell of new leather shoes and a fresh box of crayons. Seeing friends you hadn’t seen since June, exchanging summer stories and meeting your new teacher. Full of excitement and trepidation but oh, such promise.
