Battery Zuydcoote

is of origin a 18th century fortification. 30 French soldiers died as a result of a Stuka bombardment on 3 June 1940. During the occupation, the Germans modernised Zuydcoote as part of the Atlantikwall and was eventually destroyed by Canadian combat engineers in 1945.
