Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Summers end

Left the dock here before 7am. A thrash for us. At least it's not raining and blowing. ( but it did rain in the night). Hoping to meet my book club friends in time for our sept meeting at 1:00. The ferry was late - due to so many people, there was an accident on the freeway, huge traffic jams as we got close to Seattle and our local bridge was up. But they waited for me and it was delightful to be with our entire group of 10 ( hardly ever happens )for a spirited review of everyone's summer and the book. Doerr's " , Pulitzer Prize winner. "All the light you cannot see". Mixed reviews. Most loved the story and the characters but we're more critical of the writing - use of too many adjectives, organization, and poor word choice. The fact that the author was trying to make some part of WWll real for our younger generation was applauded.
Seattle schools are due to start tomorrow -we have one VERY excited kindergartner in the family. They just this evening went on strike !, causing real problems in so many households. It's a hard one -they've been negotiating long and hard but in the end want ( and deserve) more. It's been 30 years or so since the last strike. I remember picketing the school district offices when my boys were in grade school. ( 70s) It's such an ongoing frustrating problem that shouldn't be.
I guess we might be doing some more babysitting. There will be one disappointed 5 yo. Sigh.
Now I have to go to bed! Catch up later....
