Wednesday 20 June 2012: Break, shatter, make, matter.
Master Five Year Old is still off school - but he's at the bored stage now. He's mostly better, but just cannot shake the coughs.
So he was excited to see this broken branch as we walked to the tram stop for me to get to physio.
What he doesn't know is that the broken branch is from an earth tremor we had last night. It's a big deal for us Melbournians. We are pretty much right in the middle of a tectonic plate, so we don't get earthquakes, unlike our Kiwi neighbours. However, Melbourne is on a fault line so we do periodically get tremors. These rarely measure more than a 3 on Richter scale, and most people don't feel anything as they last only a few seconds. Last night's measured 5.9 and lasted 30-40 seconds. Although it was only things shaking and falling over, it had most of the state in shock. It was wide spread, which is unusual for tremors.
Of course, facebook went a bit crazy for a few hours. Took less than 20 minutes for the memes and jokes to start, and of course the people saying "you shouldn't joke about it. What if someone died?!"
Unless they were under this tree, I don't think there's even been any reports of injury.
Just confusion.
