Mono Monday : : Mood

Relief
After weeks of scorching heat and a raging wildfires approaching Napa and Sonoma Counties, I woke to low cloud and drizzle this morning with a feeling of relief. It was difficult to take a mono shot of the dull sky, so what I got was the silhouette of this very tall bamboo. I think it is relieved too.

It seems as if the entire state is burning down right now. The state senator from Lake county said, "This fire is of historic proportions…the worst tragedy Lake County has ever seen.." There were ashes all over our deck yesterday morning and the air was visible and not very breathable.  For the sake of all those who are fighting fires, the people who have lost everything and for those who have been evacuated and have no idea if their homes are still standing, I hope that the cooler weather will bring some relief.

The pictures in the paper that look like moonscapes with absolutely nothing left of the homes that once stood except for the odd chimney or tangled mass of rebar remind me of the Oakland/Berkeley hills firestorm, which burst out of nowhere and burned down 3,000 homes in a single day,
It was a change in the weather much like this which allowed the firefighters to contain that fire before it burned to the bay….
