The life & times of Jacks

Views of the City

We were up reasonably early to get to Table Mountain and lucky for us the weather was beautiful enabling clear views of the top and from the top.  Table Mountain overlooks Cape Town and you can see it from almost everywhere you go in the city - it is quite stunning.

We took a cable car to the top and then had a fun time walking around the various trails up there for an hour or two admiring the wonderful views. of the city and the coast lines.

We also discovered a little rodent like creature living up there called a dassie.  Also see my extra photo for today for a close up - they do look rather evil face on.

We had a nice lunch/ drinks back at the hotel with a colleague of mine who has recently moved to Cape Town where he has recently just become a dad.  I met his gorgeous little boy - about 9 days old and so terribly cute!

In the afternoon Steve and I headed to the waterfront and luckily got on the last boat / tour of the day to Robben Island which is where Nelson Mandela was held as a political prisoner.  We also learned about Robert Sobukwe who was held in a house by himself on the island as a detainee rather than a prisoner.  It was a fascinating visit and we were very lucky to have made it to the island.

We definitely need to go back to Cape Town as there was so much that we didn't get to do or see that had been recommended to us.
