bluer than the sky

...we awoke with excited anticipation after last night's excellent weather forecast, but it was with disappointment that we greeted the large amount of cloud and still significant wind. By the afternoon, any blue that had been present in the sky had gone and the best the temperature could muster was 17C.

On the other hand, there was a very beautiful flash of blue flitting along in front of us as we walked along the coast path near Seacombe. A solitary Common Blue butterfly Polyommatus icarus was valliantly battling against the wind but, if he was looking for girls, he was definitely out of luck! Eventually, he stopped for a rest on this grass flower. He was nearly as blue as an Adonis - you can see a patch between his folded wings...
