little hawk/falcon

this is the 2nd time we've spotted this bird on the powerline pole in the corner of our back yard. (We get a larger red-shouldered hawk sometimes, and have seen that one get a small bird.) today I got some shots of it, even looking right at me in some. But the birds you see never totally match the pictures in the bird books.

As near as we can tell, this one might be a Merlin, also called "pigeon hawk". They're supposedly not very common in Florida, but do follow the migratory birds. Can anyone confirm or identify??

another beautiful weather day, and the Dolphins won again!
