Mingalaba

Celebrating Aung San Suu Kyi's freedom to visit Britain and other countries, at last:))

The Dalai Lama and Aung San Suu Kyi, two of the great Buddhist leaders of the world, could not meet in either of their own countries for decades. Wonderful, then, to see them meeting and talking in Britain. Isn't it great that we live in a country where such freedom is possible?

From Aung San Suu Kyi's Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech - although she was awarded the prize in 1991 she was unable to collect it until this week, in Oslo.

Every thought, every word, and every action that adds to the positive and the wholesome is a contribution to peace. Each and every one of us is capable of making such a contribution. Let us join hands to try to create a peaceful world where we can sleep in security and wake in happiness.

NB: Amnesty International have a Burma Special edition out this week, which forms the backdrop to my photo.

*Mingalaba is a relatively modern Burmese greeting which, like the Tibetan Tashi Delek, has auspicious connotations.
