I missed Friday!

These are three members of the Steve Oakes Quartet, the fourth being Tim Franks. Left to right John Sandham on bass, Steve Oakes on guitar and Harold Salisbury on sax. It was the longest day, the height of summer but outside it was Kendal at its best - raining stair-rods. So not to be put off, one of their first numbers was "Summertime". For some reason it was a quiet evening and we had so many great raffle prizes that most people got a prize - jazz CDs, meals for 2 at Burgundy's, bottles of wine, Bet Midler vinyl, meals for 2 at Pumpkins etc etc. Most of us know each other for this weekly thursday gathering and a distinct sub-culture is developing, now featuring regular stories about Samantha (aka Radio 4 I'm Sorry I haven't a clue) from Ted and even entertaining readings from the letters page of the local paper! Harold, who I think is over 80, excelled himself towards the end by playing both the soprano and tenor saxophone together!! And to top the evening I was approached for a commission to paint a portrait for which I will get some photos - sounds interesting and inspiring - a joy to any artist.
