Saturday 23 June 2012: Oye! Oye! Oye!
So, after a fashion, we had an Africa Oye. Having taken the decision, probably obvious in the circumstances, but brave nevertheless, the organisers pulled out all the stops in their virtual organ to give us something to which we could go and groove. The Picket was not ideal. It was too small, but there was space to spill out onto the street. It was probably eased by the fact that nearby Camp & Furnace was hosting the DJ sets and serving food. However, I have no complaints and the fact that there was an Oye at all was remarkable.
Being so busy in The Picket meant that getting shots was a challenge; it was a fight even to get into the pit (getting out was also interesting) but once there the 50mm felt about right and the 85mm was ace. These are the backing singers for Dele Sosimi who was the headline tonight. And he was fantastic. As was the whole day. Flawed, but fantastic. Well done Oye. Kudos comes your way.
