Going for Baroque

After tearing myself away from viewing the Democratic Presidential Debates, I headed over to Janey's for this evening's trio practice. One of the benefits of practicing at Janey's home is the opportunity to peruse her vast library of music and to play with her many musical toys. This evening, she pulled a long narrow case off a shelf which held several beautiful Baroque-style cello bows. She presented a bow to each of us and we proceeded to dig into some Handel with bows like musicians in his time would have used.

Pictured above:
Baroque bow, at top, has a convex shape, less bow hair, and is significantly lighter than my modern day bow, below it.
