The Edge of the Wold

Lily's leap

Here is Lily frozen in mid-air, one foot resting on the water, ears standing on end, and with a near perfect reflection in the River Kent. Unfortunately she couldn't hold the pose for more than a millisecond, and the next frame was a big splash.

Lily doesn't just jump in, she launches herself full stretch.  What's more she brought out Rowan's competitive side.  His first tactic was to block her as she went for her leap, with Matt stood poised to video her on his phone.  Then, Rowan did what he never does, he ventured out of his depth and started perfecting his doggie-paddle to get the ball.  As for Gus, he kept well clear, he's no water dog.

This strangely calm Autumn carries on.  When did we last have any proper rain?  The River Kent is almost still, backing up and still here behind the old weir, and hence the detail of the reflection.  There is hardly more than a puff of wind to strip the trees of their coloured leaves.  And in the early afternoon sunshine, it is almost t-shirt weather.  Tomorrow we are promised a big pulse of rain, we shall see.

ps It's raining now - 1030 pm.
